Chapter One — “The Girl Who Smiled at Monsters”

Page 1 Prompt (Collector’s Edition Graphic Novel)

A premium hand-drawn seinen manga page with dense scratchy ink linework, expressive brush strokes, cross-hatching, distressed screentones, watercolor grime washes, cinematic lighting, and asymmetrical panel layouts. Inspired by gritty industrial fantasy, post-apocalyptic horror, and emotional realism. Every panel feels like it was painstakingly illustrated with dip pens and ink brushes. The world is a vast landfill civilization where mountains of rust, broken machinery, twisted railways, and impossible towers disappear into a gray sky. Black, charcoal, rust, dirty gold, and faded pink dominate the palette. Botanical horror subtly creeps into every environment.

CHAPTER ONE

“THE GIRL WHO SMILED AT MONSTERS”

Across the top is a breathtaking full-width cinematic splash panel.

A colossal wasteland stretches to the horizon.

Mountains of garbage rise like natural cliffs.

Collapsed skyscrapers lean against impossible towers built entirely from discarded machinery.

Broken train tracks disappear beneath fields of rust.

Tiny yellow sunflowers somehow bloom through cracked concrete.

Black birds circle overhead.

In the distance…

Something enormous moves beneath the junk.

The title is integrated into the environment, partially hidden behind smoke and rusted steel.

⸻

Panel 1

A small lone figure walks across an endless scrap field.

This is My Winters.

She wears patched scavenger clothing, oversized work jacket, cargo pants, heavy boots, fingerless gloves, and a weathered backpack filled with tools.

Messy platinum-blonde hair catches the wind.

Several sunflower charms hang from her pack.

She smiles softly despite the devastation around her.

She looks impossibly out of place.

Tiny against the endless landfill.

SUNFLOWER & TEETH — Volume One

Cover Art Description

A towering wall of industrial ruin stretches into the distance beneath a storm-choked sky, smokestacks and rusted cranes disappearing into black clouds. The city looks abandoned—but not empty. Between twisted rail lines and skeletal factories, monstrous sunflowers emerge from the wreckage, their blossoms split open into concentric rows of metallic human teeth. Their tangled roots disappear beneath cracked asphalt, hinting that something vast sleeps below.

Standing back-to-back in the foreground are My Winters and Jabber, framed as equals rather than hero and protector.

My stands slightly forward, platinum-blonde hair escaping a messy bun and catching the last traces of dirty gold light. Freckles dust her pale face, blue eyes fixed calmly on the reader despite the nightmare surrounding her. Her oversized black Cleaner hoodie is patched, stained, and stitched together with neon-pink thread, layered beneath chains, charms, and worn utility gear. One hand hangs loosely near her side while the other lightly grips her Vital Instrument—not raised to fight, but ready if the Garden asks.

Jabber leans against her shoulder just enough to suggest trust without softness. Dark hair falls over tired eyes framed by piercings and faded tattoos that disappear beneath the collar of his patched coat. Black-painted nails rest around the handle of his monstrous transforming Vital Instrument—a brutal fusion of industrial cleaver, rail-hammer, and reclaimed machinery threaded with glowing Resonance conduits. Fresh black ichor drips from its edge. His expression is relaxed, almost amused, as though the monsters behind them are merely background noise.

Towering directly behind the pair is a colossal Bloodroot Maw, its crimson petals unfolding around a circular maw lined with jagged metallic teeth. Thick black roots wrap around abandoned freight cars, utility poles, and collapsed buildings, making the monster appear less like a creature and more like part of the city’s anatomy.

Scattered throughout the composition are subtle visual motifs:

* Hot-pink graffiti smiley faces sprayed onto rusted train cars.
* Cleaner Corps warning placards bolted to broken concrete.
* Moths circling industrial floodlights.
* Chains tangled through roots.
* Cracked halo motifs worked into ruined architecture.
* Tiny sunflowers emerging from bullet holes.
* Human teeth embedded in flowering vines.
* Distant silhouettes of other Trash Beasts partially hidden by fog.

The title dominates the upper third of the cover.

SUNFLOWER appears in massive weathered ivory block lettering, cracked and flaking like old concrete.

& TEETH slashes across it in oversized hand-painted hot-pink brush lettering, as though sprayed directly over the title with reckless confidence.

Above the logo, in small serif lettering:

“Some flowers follow the sun. Others follow grief.”

A worn black BLACK CLEARANCE stamp overlaps the lower corner of the artwork, partially obscuring the monster behind it, reinforcing the illusion that the cover itself is a recovered Cleaner Archives document.

At the bottom, in distressed type:

VOLUME ONE

THE GARDEN HUNTS. THE MONSTERS SING.

The overall composition feels like a fusion of a premium graphic novel cover, a classified military dossier, and a museum-quality concept painting—equal parts beautiful, terrifying, and emotionally intimate. The cover immediately communicates the heart of Sunflower & Teeth: two people standing together against a living world that is watching them as closely as they are watching it.
SCENE THREE

The Bathroom Mirror

Prompt:

Cinematic bathroom scene at dawn. My stands before an old rust-stained sink, mascara wand in one hand and phone in the other. The light above the mirror flickers, splitting her reflection into alternating versions:

* one reflection smiling gently,
* one exhausted,
* one shadowed with sharp teeth barely visible,
* one as a frightened child.

Her wild blonde hair expands around her like static electricity. Her hazel eyes reflect green, amber, and storm-gray.

The room should feel ordinary but subtly haunted. Mold-darkened grout, dripping faucet, old medicine bottles, children’s bath toys on the floor.

Phone screen visible:

KENYON:
We need to talk. I can’t keep doing this.

Caption:

She no longer knew how to love him without hurting herself.
SCENE TWO

Fake Was the Favorite

Prompt:

Full comic page divided into six narrow portrait panels, each showing a different person whispering a label toward My:

* “Fake nice.”
* “Fake sweet.”
* “Fake confident.”
* “Fake innocent.”
* “Sarcastic.”
* “Cruel.”

My appears at the bottom of the page, carrying grocery bags, paperwork, children’s coats, a coffee cup, and a ringing phone all at once. She looks exhausted but still smiles politely.

A fly circles the word FAKE above her head.

Darkly humorous visual tone, expressive faces, sharp lettering, muted colors except for My’s warm golden outline.

Caption:

The word followed her like a fly.

“By the way. Why are you here in the water dragon city?” Sky replied “well you see.” Venom added. After hard examination. “So you came here to see the king and queen? And.. me?” She said and venom blushing.
Sky came closer to Vemon. “ Hm? What your name?” Sky replied with neck twisting .
Vemon was too shy to say anything, he just blushed and simply said “Ve.. Vemon.”
“Vemon! I see.” She smiled again.
